Migratuse Ataraxia (2021) is a performative architectural tour that centers black humanity in response to time, COVID-19, histories, migration and speculative black futurity.
In 2019 Wideman Davis Dance’s creation and performance of Migratuse Ataraxia centered the humanity of enslaved Africans in antebellum homes despite the oppressive bondage they lived under. This year the work intentionally shifts, exploring the journey from spaces of enslavement to those of black liberation and empowerment through a mobile performative intervention that moves from the antebellum Hampton Preston site to the former home of Modjeska Monteith Simkins, South Carolina’s most notable civil and human rights activist.
Registrants should plan to walk about 1/2 mile during the program. For participants who require or prefer vehicular access to the tour, please contact reservations@historiccoulmbia.org.
Masks will be required for attendees.
