Historic Columbia holds an annual Preservation Awards each year to celebrate the accomplishments of local architectural, construction and rehabilitation projects and leaders.
The awards recognize local projects that have maintained or added to the historical, architectural and cultural heritage throughout Columbia and Richland County in the following categories. In addition, HC often gives a Preservation Leadership Award to individuals who contribute to the advancement of historic preservation in the region.
Award Categories
- Preservation, Rehabilitation or Restoration (Commercial, Institutional, Rental or Municipal)

This award celebrates commercial, institutional, rental, or municipal projects that follow the National Park Service's definitions of preservation, rehabilitation, or restoration.
- Preservation, Rehabilitation or Restoration (Residential)

Historic Columbia’s Preservation, Rehabilitation or Restoration (Residential) award recognizes projects that follow the same, previously listed definitions, but applied to single-family homes.
- Revitalization/All Categories

Recipients of the award Revitalization/All Categories may include renovations to historic properties that are not academically correct, or new construction in a historic district that is of exceptional quality or sparks new investment. This award also includes projects or work that make special contributions to the community and/or a pioneering investment in historic districts in need of revitalization.
- Preservation Leadership

Nominations in this category recognize an individual, corporation, governmental agency, community, or neighborhood association that has significantly contributed to the advancement of historic preservation in the community.
Nominations should be limited to projects completed within the last five years and located in Columbia and Richland County. Only completed projects will be considered.
Preservation Award recipients will be recognized at an awards ceremony on May 12, 2022.
