Join Historic Columbia for a two-day professional development workshop! Join us on August 5th and 6th from 9am-3pm! Participants uncomfortable attending in-person will have the option to participate virtually*.
This year’s teacher workshop will explore the deconstructed skills covered in the 2019 Social Studies Standards, and will explore the progress and limitations of Progressivism in the South and in the wake of the Jim Crow era.
We are excited to announce that this year, teachers will have the opportunity to develop curriculum materials aligned with the new standards to use in their classrooms through resources and guidance from scholars with Teaching American History! Participants must also register through Teaching American History in order to receive the materials for this portion of the workshop. Participants can register here.
Participants will also be able to explore resources available for their classroom through Historic Columbia (including the newly completed reinterpretation at Modjeska Monteith Simkins’ House), the South Carolina Council for History Education, and more to be announced soon!
Continuing education credit is provided for this workshop. Registration includes lunch for both days and a t-shirt, and is $20 for Teacher Members and $25 for non-members.
Participants can register here.
*To register for the virtual option, please e-mail kkinard@historiccolumbia.org. If you choose to participate virtually, you will be mailed the materials from the workshop, and you will be given access to a private link so that you can participate in the sessions live, or you can choose to watch a recording of the session at your leisure. Participants will only have access to the live sessions from the portion of the workshop led by Teaching American History.
