Field Trips
Our field trips bring history books to life and allow students to experience hands-on history - just as science labs allow students to practice what they learn. We offer a variety of field trip options, including tours of our historic houses, walking tours down Main Street, and hop-on bus tours. Field trips share fact-based aspects of history using primary-source materials. Our walking and house tours aligns with South Carolina state social studies standards for a variety of grade levels and topics.

Take a field trip on some of our five historic sites - ranging from the 1820’s through the 1930’s. Students experience hands-on history led by trained guides. All tours align with South Carolina academic standards.

Main Street Tour
Tour Themes: Architecture, Reconstruction
This walking tour travels between the South Carolina State House and the Tapp’s Building six blocks away. The buildings on Main Street exhibit varying architectural styles and design influences from over 150 years of our city’s history. Students explore the history and architecture of Columbia’s central business district and the development of the city over time.
