1300-1400 Blocks of Pine Street
Many residents remember this stretch of Pine Street as “Doctors’ Row” for the many academic, medical and religious doctors who lived and worked here during the 1920s through the 1960s. Among them were Douglas K. Jenkins, Frederick Jenkins, William D. Chappelle, Robert W. Mance, Julian G. Stewart, Thelman Crawford, Durham Counts and Benjamin A. Everett, whose properties illustrated the level of success some leading professionals attained during the Jim Crow era.
