Former Residence of Robert "Hop" Paul
At this address stood the home of Robert H. Paul, known to Waverly residents and others in Columbia as “Hop” Paul. A co-owner of Owen & Paul Tailors, Paul began living in the former Queen Anne style residence with his family around 1930. Known for his stylish dress and ever-present cigar, this entrepreneur was among several community leaders who operated businesses in Columbia’s Black business district. This historic house was destroyed by fire in 2020.
