1619 Crestwood Drive
Built in early 1928 by J. Frank Bailey, Inc., this residence was purchased by Edward Riddle and Ellen N. Denny in June of that year. Denny’s father, James L. Denny, known in Columbia as “Old Man Denny,” lived with them. At the time, Edward Denny worked as an assistant city clerk and treasurer, but was forced to resign in 1932 under allegations of impropriety. He worked as an accountant for several organizations, including the State Highway Department, over the next several decades. The Dennys later lived in Melrose Heights on Fairview Drive.
