Tour begins at the First Responder monument : 1101 Lincoln Street, Columbia, SC 29201
Join Historic Columbia for a stroll through the Congaree Vista, an area comprised of almost 800 acres. Once a bustling cotton warehouse and railroad district, today’s Vista is a bustling entertainment district that features architecturally significant buildings from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Participants will learn about buildings along the 700–1000 blocks of Gervais and the people and businesses who made this corridor a center of commerce over a century ago. The tour will last approximately 75 minutes and begin and end outside of the Convention Center (please meet in front of the First Responder monument).

Established in 1842, Arsenal Hill became a desirable residential area for white elites during the antebellum era and then for middle- and working-class Black residents during the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Participants will learn how these residences, combined with spiritual, educational, and governmental institutions, resulted in an eclectic mix of architecture and dynamic community histories.
